Fabric Construction & Light-Blocking Technology

Fabric Construction & Light-Blocking Technology

Our blackout roller shades use a proprietary triple-weave fabric construction that creates an impenetrable barrier to light. The core blackout layer is sandwiched between two decorative face layers, ensuring the fabric remains opaque while maintaining rich, fade-resistant color on the room-facing side.

This construction method outperforms single-layer blackout materials by eliminating pinhole light leakage and providing superior durability. The tightly woven polyester fibers resist warping and maintain their shape even in high-humidity environments like bathrooms and kitchens.

Measuring & Custom Sizing

Measuring & Custom Sizing

Every blackout roller shade we produce is made to order based on your exact specifications. When you place an order, you’ll provide us with your window width and height measurements, and we’ll cut and assemble your shade with precision down to 1/8 inch.

For inside mount installations, measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of your window frame opening, then use the narrowest measurement. Measure height from the top of the frame to the sill, and we’ll account for proper clearance during manufacturing.

Cordless Lift Mechanisms

Our standard cordless lift system uses a spring-assisted mechanism that allows you to raise and lower your blackout roller shades with a gentle pull on the bottom rail. This eliminates dangling cords that pose strangulation hazards to young children and pets, meeting current WCMA safety standards.

The cordless system is ideal for shades up to 72 inches wide and 96 inches tall. For larger windows, we recommend our motorized option.

I installed these blackout roller shades in our east-facing bedroom and the difference is incredible. Not a single ray of morning sunlight gets through, even in summer. The cordless lift is smooth and the fabric quality feels substantial. Worth every penny for better sleep.

Game changer for my night shift schedule
As a nurse working nights, I need to sleep during the day and these shades make my bedroom pitch black. I added the side channels for total light blocking and it's like nighttime even at noon. The insulation also keeps the room cooler in summer.

Great quality, very happy with color match
Ordered custom shades for four windows in our nursery. The measurements were perfect and the dove gray color matches our walls beautifully. My only note is the cordless lift took a few days to break in, but now it operates smoothly. Baby sleeps through morning light now.

I measured wrong on my first order and the Lazblinds team quickly helped me get replacement shades made at no extra charge. The new shades fit perfectly and the inside mount looks clean and professional. The blackout effect is total darkness when closed. Highly recommend.

Questions About Our Blackout Roller Shades

Our blackout roller shades block 99% of incoming light when properly installed and fully closed. The triple-weave fabric construction creates an opaque barrier that eliminates visibility through the material.

For complete room darkening with zero light leakage, we recommend pairing the shades with our side channel system and cassette valance, which seal the edges and top of the shade against light gaps. Standard installations without side channels may allow minimal light leakage along the edges where the fabric meets the window frame.

Most customers successfully install our blackout roller shades themselves using basic tools and our detailed instructions. Each shade ships with mounting brackets, screws, and a step-by-step guide with photos.

You'll need a drill, level, measuring tape, and pencil. Inside mount installations typically take 15-20 minutes per window, while outside mounts may take slightly longer. We provide installation videos on our website, and our support team is available to answer questions.

Professional installation is recommended only if you're uncomfortable with basic drilling or have unusually tall windows requiring ladder work.

Our cordless lift system uses a spring-assisted mechanism that you operate manually by pulling the bottom rail up or down. It's reliable, requires no batteries or power, and meets all child safety standards by eliminating dangling cords.

Motorized shades use a battery-powered tubular motor inside the roller that you control via remote, wall switch, or smartphone app. Motorization is ideal for hard-to-reach windows, very large or heavy shades, or integrating with smart home systems for scheduled operation. Motorized options add convenience but require periodic battery charging every 6-12 months depending on usage.

For inside mount shades, measure the width of your window frame opening at the top, middle, and bottom, then use the narrowest measurement. Measure the height from the top of the frame to the sill. We'll subtract the necessary clearances during manufacturing.

For outside mount, measure the width you want the shade to cover (typically 2-3 inches beyond the frame on each side) and the height from where you'll mount the top bracket to your desired bottom coverage point.

Always measure in three spots for width and height to account for frame irregularities. Our online ordering system guides you through the process, and our measuring guide includes printable templates. If you're unsure, our customer service team can help verify your measurements before production begins.

Yes, our blackout roller shades provide significant thermal insulation that can reduce window-related energy loss by 25-30%. The dense triple-weave fabric acts as a barrier to heat transfer, keeping hot air out in summer and warm air in during winter.

The energy-saving effect is maximized when shades are closed during peak heating or cooling times and when installed as inside mounts or with side channels that create an insulating air pocket. Customers in extreme climates report noticeable reductions in HVAC runtime and lower utility bills after installing blackout shades throughout their homes.

The Department of Energy recognizes cellular and blackout window treatments as effective passive energy efficiency measures.

Regular dusting with a vacuum soft brush attachment or microfiber cloth keeps the fabric looking fresh. For spot cleaning, use a damp cloth with mild soap and water, then blot dry—avoid saturating the fabric.

Do not machine wash, bleach, or use harsh chemicals that could damage the blackout coating. The polyester fabric naturally resists staining and dust accumulation compared to fabric shades.

The roller mechanism is maintenance-free and requires no lubrication. If the shade becomes misaligned, check that brackets are level and end caps are fully seated. Our care guide provides detailed instructions for keeping your shades operating smoothly for years.

We provide a 5-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials, fabric, and hardware. This includes the roller mechanism, mounting brackets, and blackout fabric coating. Normal wear, improper installation, and accidental damage are not covered.

Because each shade is custom-made to your specifications, we cannot accept returns on standard orders. However, if we make a manufacturing error or ship the wrong size, we'll remake your shade at no charge.

If you're unsure about measurements or fabric choices, we offer sample swatches for $5 that ship within 2 business days. We also provide a 30-day satisfaction guarantee—if you're not happy with the performance or appearance, contact us and we'll work with you to find a solution.
